The 2014 BRIT Awards ceremony held on 19 February at the 02 Arena in London, was the 34th edition of the British Phonographic Industry’s annual pop music awards. I’m a massive fan, and look forward to it every year. How amazing was Beyonce?! Great performances of the evening. It’s such an amazing event and of course the fashion is AMAZING!
One thing I love about these type of award ceremonies is the fashion and the hype around who’s wearing what/who looks the best etc. I have done a bit of stalking myself and I thought I’d put together a post about who I think looked best this year, and also award winners!
First of all how amazing does Ellie Goulding look?! She actually looks like a princess. This Vivienne Weswood dress is amazing, suits her perfectly and it clearly caught the attention of the red carpet! One of my most recent style crushes Foxes looks amazing in this purple number! One of the best dressed which surprised me was Rita Ora. I’m personally really not a Rita Ora fan but she looks SO beautiful in this yellow Prada number! Can we all just take a moment to appreciate Kian Egan’s wife Jodi’s outfit. I am seriously in love with her dress and I’ve now added a bright yellow pair of heels to my wishlist! Despite not hearing much of her lately Rebecca Ferguson looks amazing in a white dress and clashing yellow heels! Also Lily Allen. Another favourite of mine from the evening is Pixie Lott! She looks absolutely stunning in this white gown by DKNY. Nicole Scherzinger always kills it and she looks stunning in this outfit!
Now to appreciate the men’s fashion of the evening. I loved all the men’s outfits of the night. My favourites include Pharrelle Williams, Connor Maynard, Rizzle Kicks, Tinie Tempah and Sam Smith!
DAVID BOWIE won Best Male Solo Artist. The musician was unable to collect the trophy himself, because, as award presenter Noel Gallagher said, “He’s too cool for this shit.” Instead he sent Kate Moss to pick up his prize. The model took to the stage wearing Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust outfit, and read out a message from the man himself – which ended with a plea to Scottish voters, urging them to reject independence in September’s referendum.
“I’m completely delighted to have a Brit for being the Best Male – but I am, aren’t I Kate ?? Yes. I think it’s a great way to end the day,” the speech said, as delivered by Moss. “Thank you very, very much and Scotland stay with us.”
Other big winners included Arctic Monkeys, who received Best Group and MasterCard British Album of the Year for the third time – the first time a band has done so. Ellie Goulding topped the Female Solo Artist category, and was presented with her award by Prince – who last attended the event in 1995. Bastille was named Best Breakthrough Act, while Daft Punk was given the International Group prize. Arctic Monkeys and One Direction both won the most awards, winning two awards each.
Performances were provided by Katy Perry, Arctic Monkeys, Rudimental, Pharrell and Nile Rodgers, as well as Beyoncé, who was named a last-minute surprise act only yesterday morning.
